There are three modes of transport of CO2.

Dissolved state: In the dissolved state, 5 to 7% of carbon dioxide is carried through blood plasma.

Bicarbonates: Bicarbonates are the main form in which carbon dioxide is delivered. The CO2 from the tissues reaches the RBCs where it reacts with water to create carbonic acid (H2CO3). Then carbonic acid separates into the ions H + and bicarbonate (H2CO3).

Carbamino-hemoglobin- 23% of the carbon dioxide that is transported by the body is carried by carbamino-hemoglobin. Haemoglobin's amino groups interact with carbon dioxide to generate carbamino-hemoglobin..
