Release of Carbon dioxide in the Lungs -
- At the alveoli, the blood capillaries are subjected to high oxygen and low carbon dioxide concentration.
- As a result, there is a speedy reversal of chemical events releasing CO2 and picking up O2 simultaneously.
- CO2 dissolved in plasma diffuses into alveoli.
- Carbaminohaemoglobin also splits into CO2 and Hb.
- For the release of CO2 from the bicarbonate ions, the following reactions occur:
- The reduced haemoglobin is reversed when oxygen binds to the Hb.
