Consider the following statements given below:
(i) The active role of the Sympathetic nervous system is to reduce salivation.
(ii) The potassium ions are responsible for salivation.
(iii) The increase in salivation is stimulated by Parasympathetic nervous system.
(iv) Salivation is controlled by Hindbrain.
How many of the above statements are incorrect?
2
3
1
4
The Medulla oblongata of the hindbrain controls involuntary actions like salivation, vomiting, blood pressure, etc. The secretions coming out of the salivary gland is controlled by two divisions of the autonomic nervous system which are the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system.
The parasympathetic nerve supply regulates secretion by the acinar cells and causes blood vessels to dilate which increases the amount of saliva secretion whereas the sympathetic nervous system reduces the pace of active saliva secretion. Also, chloride ions are responsible for salvation.
Hence, option 2 is the correct answer.
