Pteridophytes and Bryophytes show haplo-diplontic life cycle.

-In pteridophytes, the dominant phase is represented by diploid, independent, photosynthetic sporophytic phase. It alternates with muticellular, independent but short lived haploid gametophyte.

- In bryophytes, the dominant phase is independent, photosynthetic thalloid or erect gametophyte and it alternates with short lived multicellular sporophyte totally or partially dependent on the gametophyte for its anchorage and nutrition.

Fucus and gymnosperms show diplontic life cycle.

-The dominant phase is photosynthetic, independent diploid sporophytic plant.

-Meiosis occurs in spore mother cell (diploid) and produces gametes which represent the only gametophytic stage in the life cycle.

- The gametes undergo fertilization immediately and form zygote which in turn give rise to sporophytic plant body.
