Meiosis is the division of a diploid parental cell into haploid progeny, each of which contains just one of the diploid parent's pair of homologous chromosomes. Hence statement 1 is correct which makes option A and D incorrect.
When a sperm fertilises an egg, the genetic material in the ensuing zygote cell is combined. In other words, a single set of chromosomes from two distinct haploid cells combines to form two sets of chromosomes in a single diploid cell. That zygote cell eventually develops into a new human.
