Give the characteristics of Neanderthal man.
Living roughly 400,000 to 40,000 years ago, the Neanderthal man (Homo neanderthalensis) was short and stocky with a large chest and strong limbs; he flourished in cold conditions. Their low-sloping forehead, thick brow ridges, and large cranial capacities (1400–1600 cm¹) combined with their wide, flat snouts helped warm frigid air. They were excellent hunters, tool builders, and fire users; strong teeth and jaws let them chew tough food. Among these are graves, symbolic art, and social care, which all point to a complicated society and set of feelings. Before the latter went extinct, the two species coexisted and even cross-bred.
