How does increasing ionic charge affect the melting and boiling points of a compound?

Option: 1

It has no effect

Option: 2

It decreases the melting and boiling points

Option: 3

It increases the melting and boiling points

Option: 4

It depends on the compound's crystal structure

Answers (1)

An ionic bond is the electrostatic attraction between two oppositely charged ions to form an ionic compound. The greater the charge of an ion the stronger the ionic bond as the attraction between the positive nuclei and the negative outer electrons is greater and therefore the higher the melting point and boiling points are.
