As we have learned

Coffecient of Restitution (e) -

e= \frac{v_{2}-v_{1}}{u_{2}-u_{1}}

- wherein

Ratio of relative velocity after collision to relative velocity before collision.

 For inelastic collision

v_1 = \frac{(m_1-em_2)u_1}{m_1+m_2} + \frac{(1+e)m_2u_2}{m_1+m_2}

v_2 = \frac{(m_2-em_1)u_2}{m_1+m_2} + \frac{(1+e)m_1u_1}{m_1+m_2}

For u2 = 0   and m_1 = m_2 = m

v_1 = \frac{(1-e)v}{2}

v_2 = \frac{(1+e)v}{2}

\frac{v_1}{v_2} = \left ( \frac{1-e}{1+e} \right )
