\mathrm{I_{\text {max. }}=(a+a)^{2}=4 a^{2}=1 }

If one slit is closed,

Intensity, \mathrm{\mathrm{I}_{0}=(\mathrm{a})^{2} }

\mathrm{\therefore \frac{\mathrm{I}}{\mathrm{I}_{0}}=\frac{4 \mathrm{a}^{2}}{\mathrm{a}^{2}}=4 \text { or } \mathrm{I}=4 \mathrm{I}_{0} }
