Beryllium lies left of the boron in the periodic table. On moving from left to right (Beryllium to boron), a proton is added to the nucleus due to which effective nuclear charge increases from Be to B. 

Electronic configuration of Be is 1s2, 2s2
It possess completely filled s−orbital. Hence, high amount of energy is required to pull the electron from the gaseous atom.
