Types of trees on the basis of branching -

On the basis of branching, trees are divided into

  • Caudex (columnar) - Stem is unbranched & bears a crown of leaves at the apex. Eg - date palm, nut palm & Fan palm.
  • Excurrent - Branches arise from the main stem in aeropetal succession & tree assumes a cone like appearance. Eg - Pinus, Eucalyptus
  • Decurrent (Deliquescent) - Lateral branches grow vigorously, gives a dome-shaped appearance. Eg - Mango, Shisham, Banyam
