White precipitate of \mathrm{AgCl} is obtained on reaction of Lassaigne's extract with \mathrm{AgNO_3}

This white precipitate is dissolved upon addition of \mathrm{NH_4OH} owing to fomation of diamine silver(I) complex. This confirms the presence of chlorine.
