Need clarity, kindly explain! - Equilibrium - NEET

The equilibrium constants of the following are:

\begin{array}{*{20}c} {\text{N}_2 + 3\text{H}_2 \rightleftharpoons 2\text{NH}_3 } & {\text{K}_1 } \\ \end{array}

\begin{array}{*{20}c} {\text{N}_2 + \text{O}_2 \rightleftharpoons 2\text{NO}} & {\text{K}_2 } \\ \end{array}

\begin{array}{*{20}c} {\text{H}_2 + \frac{1} {2}\text{O}_2 \to \text{H}_2 \text{O}} & {\text{K}_3 } \\ \end{array}

The equilibrium constant (K) of the reaction:

2\text{NH}_3 + {\raise0.7ex\hbox{$5$} \!\mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {5 2}}\right.\kern-\nulldelimiterspace} \!\lower0.7ex\hbox{$2$}}\text{O}_2 \mathop \rightleftharpoons \limits^\text{K} 2\text{NO} + 3\text{H}_2 \text{O}

  • Option 1)

    K_1 {{K_3^3 } \mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {{K_3^3 } {K_2 }}} \right. \kern-\nulldelimiterspace} {K_2 }}

  • Option 2)

    K_2 {{K_3^3 } \mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {{K_3^3 } {K_1 }}} \right. \kern-\nulldelimiterspace} {K_1 }}

  • Option 3)

    K_2 {{K_3 } \mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {{K_3 } {K_1 }}} \right. \kern-\nulldelimiterspace} {K_1 }}

  • Option 4)

    K_2^3 {{K_3 } \mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {{K_3 } {K_1 }}} \right. \kern-\nulldelimiterspace} {K_1 }}

Equilibrium constant for the reverse reaction -

Equilibrium constant for the reverse reaction is the inverse of the equilibrium constant for the reaction in the forward direction.

- wherein

K'_{c}=\frac{1}{K_{c}}

{K'_{c}}   is  equilibrium constant for reverse direction.

 N_{2}+3 H_{2}\rightleftharpoons 2NH_{3}, K_{1}

2 H_{3}\rightleftharpoons 3H_{2}+N_{2}} , \frac{1}{K_{1}}   - - - - - - - -- (1)

H_{2}+\frac{1}{2}O_{2}\rightarrow H_{2}O , K_{3}  - - - - -- - - - - -(2)

3H_{2}+\frac{3}{2}O_{2}\rightarrow 3H_{2}O , K_{3}^{3} - - - - - - - - - - (3)

adding (1) (2) (3)

3H_{2}+\frac{3}{2}O_{2}\rightleftharpoons 3H_{2}O , K=\frac{K_{2}K_{3}^{3}}{K_{1}}

Option 1)

K_1 {{K_3^3 } \mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {{K_3^3 } {K_2 }}} \right. \kern-\nulldelimiterspace} {K_2 }}

Incorrect option

Option 2)

K_2 {{K_3^3 } \mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {{K_3^3 } {K_1 }}} \right. \kern-\nulldelimiterspace} {K_1 }}

Correct option

Option 3)

K_2 {{K_3 } \mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {{K_3 } {K_1 }}} \right. \kern-\nulldelimiterspace} {K_1 }}

Incorrect option

Option 4)

K_2^3 {{K_3 } \mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {{K_3 } {K_1 }}} \right. \kern-\nulldelimiterspace} {K_1 }}
