Read the following statement and answer as per instructions in option

Statement 1: During the titration of N{{a}_{2}}C{{O}_{3}} with HCl if we use methyl orange as an indicator, the volume of HCl required to obtain equivalence point is twice to that of the acid required in case we use phenolph thalein as an indicator.

Statement 2: For complete neutralisation of one mole of N{{a}_{2}}C{{O}_{3}}  two moles of HCl are required.

Option: 1

Statement1 is true; Statement 2 is true; and Statement2 is the correct explanation of Statement1.

Option: 2

Statement1 is true; Statement 2 is true; and Statement2 is not the correct explanation of Statement1.

Both statements are true, but Statement 2 is not the correct explanation of Statement 1.

Since phenolphthalein and methyl orange changes colour at different pH values, thus the different volume of titrant is required to neutralize the analyte and obtain the equivalence point.

Phenolphthalein changes its colour to pink at a pH above 9.0, whereas methyl orange changes its colour to reddish-orange at a pH below 4.3.
