A toy car with charge q moves on a frictionless horizontal plane surface under the influence of a uniform electric field \overset{\rightarrow } E . Due to the force q\overset{\rightarrow } E , its velocity increases from 0 to 6 m/s in one second duration. At that instant the direction of the field is reversed. The car continues to move for two more seconds under the influence of this field. The average velocity and the average speed of the toy car between 0 to 3 seconds are
respectively

As we have learned

2nd equation or Position- time equation -

s= ut +frac{1}{2}at^{2}

s
ightarrow Displacement

u
ightarrowInitial velocity

a
ightarrowacceleration

t
ightarrow time

-

0< t< 1s, velocity increases from 0 to 6 m/s

1< t< 2s, velocity decreases from 6 to 0 m/s

but car continues to move forword

2< t< 3s, since acceleration is same

\Rightarrow car's velocity increases from 0 to -6 m/s

Distance travelled in first second

=\frac{1}{2}at^{2}=\frac{1}{2}\times \left ( \frac{v-u}{t} \right )t^{2}

=\frac{1}{2}\times 6\times 1=3m

Total displacement = 3m

\therefore Average velocity = 3/3 =1 m/s

Total Distance =(3+3+3)m =9m

\therefore Average speed = \therefore \frac{9m}{3s}=3m/s

Option 1)

1 m/s, 3.5 m/s

This is incorrect

Option 2)

1 m/s , 3 m/s

This is correct

Option 3)

2 m/s , 4 m/s

This is incorrect

Option 4)

1.5 m/s , 3 m/s

This is incorrect
