Fringe Width in a medium -

{\beta }'= \frac{\beta }{\mu }

- wherein

Since wavelength in a medium become \lambda = \frac{\lambda _{o}}{\mu }

 

 

 

Fringe width in air =\frac{\lambda _0D}{d}

Fringe width in any other medium =(\frac{\lambda _0}{\mu }).\frac{D}{d}

According to question

8 \left(\frac{\lambda _0}{\mu }.\frac{D}{d} \right )=(\frac{9}{2})\frac{\lambda_0 D}{d}

or \mu =\frac{16}{9}=1.78
