The energy absorbed by each molecule (A2) of a substance is 4.4 x 10-19 J and bond energy per molecule is 4.0 x 10-19 J. The kinetic energy of the molecule per atom will be:

Option: 1

2.2 \times 10-19 J

Option: 2

2.0 \times 10-19 J

Option: 3

4.0 \times 10-20 J

Option: 4

2.0 \times 10-20 J

Answers (1)

\text{K.E per atom } =\frac{\text { Energy absorbed - Bond energy}}{\text { No. of atoms in the molecule }}

Given,

          Energy absorbed = 4.4 x 10-19 J

          Bond energy = 4.0 x 10-19 J

           No. of the atoms in molecule = 2

Put all the values in the above equation,

\begin{align*} \text{K.E per atom } &=\frac{4.4\times 10^{-19} - 4.0\times 10^{-19}}{2} \\ &= 2\times 10^{-20} J \end{align*}
