Characteristics of Kingdom Protista -

  • Protists are unicellular eukaryotic organisms, it means that a well-defined nucleus and membrane-bound organelles are present in them.
  • The cell is surrounded by a plasma membrane and an outer covering that can be pellicle (proteinaceous layer), cuticle, shell or cellulosic wall.
  • Flagella and cilia, if present, have (9+2) pattern of microtubular stands.
  • The structure of bacterial flagella is simple, the filament of the flagellum is a hollow tube made up of a flagellar protein called flagellin.

Hence, Bacterial flagella are hollow. Bacterial flagella are made up of flagellin. Protist flagella show the 9+2 structure of the microtubules.
