The growth of roots and stems in length with the help of apical meristem is called
Primary growth
Lateral growth
Secondary growth
intercalary growth
As we learned
Location of apical meristem -
Apical meristem is absent in lower algae fungi and do not show apical growth. The growth in such organism is called diffused growth. Apical meristem in higher algae (e.g. Fucus, Dictyota, & Sargassum), Bryophytes and some Pteridophytes (eg. Selaginella) is consisting of single cell. This cell is known as apical cell. This apical cell is pyramid in shape and divides into two lateral planes.
- wherein
In Ferns, Gymnosperms and Angiosperms, Apical meristem consist of many cells.
