Efficiency of a rectifier is given by
\mathrm{\eta=\frac{\text { DC }}{\text { AC }} \frac{\text { power output }}{\text { power input }}}
For full wave rectifier
\mathrm{DC} power output \mathrm{=I_{D C}^2 \times R_L=\left(\frac{2 I_0}{\pi}\right)^2 \times R_L}
\mathrm{AC} input power \mathrm{=I_{\mathrm{rms}}^2\left(r_f+R_L\right)=\left(\frac{I_0}{\sqrt{2}}\right)^2\left(r_f+R_L\right)}
\mathrm{\therefore } Rectifier efficiency
\mathrm{\eta=\frac{\left(\frac{2 I_0}{\pi}\right)^2 R_L}{\left(\frac{I_0}{\sqrt{2}}\right)^2\left(r_f+R_L\right)}=\frac{0.812 R_L}{r_f+R_L}}
\mathrm{\eta } will be maximum, if \mathrm{r_{f}} is negligible as compared to \mathrm{R_{L}}
.\mathrm{\therefore } Maximum rectified efficiency \mathrm{= 81.2%.}
