Mycoplasm / PPLO ( Pleuropneumonia like organism ) -

  • Smallest monerans
  • Unicellular, non – motile
  • Lack cell wall
  • Resistance to antibiotics that affect cell wall synthesis like penicillin.
  • Inhibited by antibiotics like tetracycline which acts on metabolic pathways.
  • DNA is linear, double stranded extending almost throughout the cell.
