Tracheids and vessels are two type of tracheary elements of xylem tissue. The main function of tracheary elements is ascent of sap. Tracheids have imperforated cells thus keeps the sap longer in them while vessels are highly perforated. Vessels have various types of perforations.

As there is no perforation in tracheids the cells are less sufficient for transportation while vessels are more sufficient in carrying the sap.
