What is Coronary Circulation?
The blood vessels that supply and drain blood from the heart muscles through a network of coronary arteries and veins are termed the coronary circulation. It supplies oxygen and nutrients to the heart muscles, with the removal of carbon dioxide and waste from the heart. As the heart continuously pumps blood, it requires a rich supply of oxygen and nutrients to function properly. The blockage in the coronary arteries can lead to angina (chest pain) or a heart attack (myocardial infarction), known as Coronary Artery Disease (CAD).
