What is the other name of Law of Definite Composition ?
Law of Multiple Proportions
Avogadro’s Law
Law of Definite Proportion
Law of Conservation of Mass
The law of constant proportions, also known as Proust's law or the law of definite proportions, states that the elements in a chemical compound are present in fixed ratios by mass. This means that any pure sample of a compound will always consist of the same elements in the same ratio by mass, regardless of its source. For example, pure water will always contain hydrogen and oxygen in a fixed mass ratio. Joseph Proust conducted experiments to determine the composition of compounds and found that they always contain the same elements in the same proportion by mass. Hence, the law is also known as the Law of Definite Proportion. The ratio of the number of atoms of each element in a compound may vary, but the mass ratio remains constant. For example, in a nitrogen dioxide (NO2) molecule, the ratio of the number of nitrogen and oxygen atoms is 1:2 but the mass ratio is 14:32 (or 7:16).
Joseph Proust worked about the composition of elements present in a compound experimentally, he concluded that from any source, a particular compound always contains the same elements in the same proportion by mass/weight. Hence it can also be known as the Law of Definite Proportion
