  • Meiosis is a process by which conversation of specific chromosome number of every species is achieved across generations in sexually reproducing organisms, the meiosis results in reduction of chromosome number by half. 

  • It also increases the genetic variation in the population of organisms from one generation to another or next generation.  Variations are very important for the process of evolution.

  • The Gamete formation is possible due to meiosis because at the end of meiosis there are 4 daughter cells which are haploid in nature.

  • In the generation meiosis maintains a constant number of chromosomes.

  • Option 4 is the correct answer.
