In order to legally stop the growing threat of female foeticides, amniocentesis for sex-determination is prohibited by law. This is because it was improperly utilised to destroy healthy female foetuses.

The statutory ban on amniocentesis for sex-determination does not exist for the reasons listed in options b) to lower the cost of the surgery and c) to raise awareness about genetic abnormalities.

Option 1 is the correct answer.
