Yes, the electric field inside the cavity is zero even when the shape is irregular and not the sphere. suppose a Gaussian surface inside the cavity, now since there is no charge inside it, the electric flux through it will be zero according to the guess law. also, all of the charges will reside on the surface if the conductor so, net charge inside is zero. hence electric field inside cavity is zero.
