8. Explain what is meant by biofortification.
Biofortification is the process of developing crops having a higher content of vitamins, minerals, proteins, fats etc. Biofortification has been proven to be a method for improving public health. It is undertaken to improve the content and quality of proteins and oils. Atlas 66 is a biofortified wheat variety having higher protein content than the existing wheat. Similarly, biofortified varieties of rice, carrots, and spinach have also been produced.
