Q. 9. How are the alveoli designed to maximise the exchange of gases?
The alveoli are thin-walled and are richly supplied with blood vessels to maximize the exchange of gases. The alveoli have balloon-like structure thus providing a large surface area available for the exchange of gases.
They are smaller tubes which finally terminate in balloon- like structures which are called aleveoli. They allow oxygen and carbon dioxide to move between the lungs and bloodstream.
