We will use identity 

(x+a)(x+b)=x^2+(a+b)x+ab

Put   a = 4 \ \ and \ \ b = 10

(x+4)(x+10)= x^2+(10+4)x+10\times 4
     
                                  = x^2+14x+40

Therefore, (x + 4) ( x + 10)  is equal to  x^2+14x+40
