It is known that the oxidation state of H = 1 and O is -2.
Let the oxidation state of P be x


\\3 + x + 3(-2) = 0\\ 3 + x - 6 = 0\\ x - 3 = 0\\ x = 3

hence oxidation state of H_{3}PO_{_{3}} is  3
