Methanogens are a group of bacteria found in both the rumen of cattle and certain stages of sewage treatment.
- In the rumen- Methanogens like methanobacterium are anaerobic bacteria. They help in the breakdown of cellulose helping the cattle to derive energy.
- In sludge digesters (certain stages of sewage treatment)- The activated sludge is fed upon by anaerobic sludge digesters where anaerobic bacteria like methanogens digest the microbes of the flocs releasing biogas.
