Why are flocs important in the biological treatment of wastewater?

Answers (1)

Flocs are masses of bacteria associated with fungal filaments to form mesh-like structures. Flocs digest most of the organic material from the sludge. Thus, flocs help in reducing the BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand) of the effluent. This helps in the further treatment of sludge.
