Why is damage to the ozone layer a cause for concern? What steps are being taken to limit this damage?
The ozone layer in the stratosphere absorbs harmful UV rays and thus protects living beings. If this ozone layer gets depleted, the UV rays may cause cancer in humans and other plants and animals. Thus, damage to the ozone layer is a cause for concern.
In order to limit this damage, the production of CFCs (Cholorofluoro carbons) was stopped in 1986.
