(a) Define the term 'intensity of radiation' in photon picture.

(b) Plot a graph showing the variation of photon current vs collector potential for three different intensities I_{1}>I_{2}>I_{3}, two of which (I_{1} and I_{2} ) have the same frequency \nu and third had frequency v_{1}>v.

(c) Explain the nature of the curves on the basis of Einstein's equation.

Answers (1)

(a) Intensity is the number of photons emitted per unit area in unit time.

(b)

(c) According to Einstein's photoelectric equation

eV_{0}= h\nu -h\nu _{0}

  • Since frequency for I1, I2 are the same, the stoping potential remains the same.
  • Since photocurrent depends on intensity photocurrent for I_{1}>I_{2}>I_{3}
