(a) Define vegetative propagation. List its two methods.
(b) Why is this mode practised for growing some types of plants?
(c) Explain the process of budding in Hydra with the help of labelled diagrams.
Vegetative propagation is any form of asexual reproduction occurring in plants in which a new plant grows from a parent plant.
Vegetative propagation from Root :
Some plant roots develop adventitious buds. These buds grow and form and new plants under the right condition. These sprouts can be separated from the parent plant and when planted in other areas new plants are formed. Example- Sweet potato
Vegetative propagation by leaf :
Plants like Bryophyllium, Begonia etc have adventitious buds coming out from the notches of the leaves. These buds develop into new plants.
(b) It is used in a growing plant which plant's seed can not be formed or very few seeds are produced such as Orange, Banana, Pineapple.
(c) In hydra, first, a bud develops and after that, it divides the cell and nucleus. Then bud develops into tiny individuals and detaches from the parent body.
