\\$Given: speed of motorboat in the still water 18 km/hr $ \\$Let speed of the stream be $ x \ \mathrm{km} / \mathrm{hr} \\\\ $ According to the question $ \\ \frac{24}{18-x}-\frac{24}{18+x}=1 \\\\ \frac{24(18+x - 18 + x)}{(18-x)(18+x)}=1 \\ 24(2 x)=324-x^{2} \\ x^{2}+48 x-324=0 \\x^{2}+54 x - 6x -324=0 \\ (x+54)(x-6)=0 \\ x=6, x = -54 $(not possible ) $ \\ $ Speed of the stream (x)$=6 \mathrm{km} / \mathrm{h}$
