b) Steps carried out in the process of DNA fingerprinting technique are:

  • Isolation of DNA from the sample,
  • digestion of DNA by restriction endonuclease enzyme,
  • separation of DNA fragments by electrophoresis process,
  • blotting of separated DNA fragments to synthetic membranes such as nitrocellulose or nylon,
  • hybridisation by using labelled VNTR probe,
  • And at last the detection of hybridised DNA fragments by autoradiography.

Application of DNA fingerprinting technique- In forensic labs for detection and testings.
