(a) What is translocation? Why is it essential for plants?
(b) Where do the substances in plants reach as a result of translocation?
(a) Transport of soluble product of photosynthesis from leaves to other parts of plants is called translocation. Translocation in plants takes place by vascular tissue called phloem.
Translocation is essential because, without it, the food prepared by the leaves cannot reach other parts of the plant.
(b) Food is transported to stem, root and all other storage regions of plants.
