(a) Aromatic carboxylic acids do not undergo Friedel-Crafts reaction.

(a) Aromatic carboxylic acid do not undergo Friedel Crafts reaction because of deactivating nature of -COOH group and the catalyst AlCl3 gets bonded to -COOH.

(b) pK_a value of 4-nitrobenzoic acid is lower than that of benzoic acid because -NO_{2} is an electron withdrawing group, it increases the acidic strength of carboxylic acids by stabilizing the carboxylate ion due to dispersal of negative charge.
