These lines have been taken from the poem 'Dover Beach' written by Matthew Arnold. The poet tells his beloved that this world contains various beauties. Even then, it appears to be dull. It appears to be worth of nothing. The poet is sitting at the Dover Beach, in the company of his beloved looks at the sea waves rising. He says that there is no real joy in the world. There is no love. Things of the world are uncertain.
