Biocontrol refers to the use of natural predators, parasites, or bacteria to manage harmful pests and diseases in plants.

Example- Using ladybirds for aphid control or using Trichoderma fungus to fight plant diseases. Some of the major approaches for organic farming are given as follows:

  1. Crop Rotation - Cultivating several crops in series to improve soil fertility and reduce insect populations.
  2. Biological Pest Control (Biocontrol) - Using natural enemies to manage pest populations.
  3. Mixed Farming and Intercropping - Cultivating many crops simultaneously to sustain ecological equilibrium.
  4. Usage of Organic Fertilisers - Implementing compost, green manure, and farmyard manure instead of synthetic fertilisers.
  5. Utilisation of biofertilizers - Microorganisms such as Rhizobium, Azospirillum, or Mycorrhiza that enhance soil nutrients.
  6. Minimal Chemical Utilisation - Diminishing the application of synthetic insecticides and fertilisers.
