Define electric flux and write its SI unit. The electric field components in the figure shown are :E_{x}=\alpha x,E_{y}=0,E_{z}=0 where \alpha =\frac{100\; N}{Cm}.Calculate the charge within the cube, assuming a=0.1 \; m.

Elecflux: Electric flux through an area is the number of field lines passing normally through an area.

Electric flux:-

                \phi = \oint \vec{E}.\vec{ds}

     S.I unit   =\frac{Nm^{2}}{C}

       given,  E_{x}=\alpha x

                   \alpha=100

                    E_{x}=100\; x

Total flux,

                \phi =-100\times a\times (a^{2})+100\times 2a(a^{2})

                    =100\; a^{3}

                \phi =\frac{q}{\epsilon _{0}}

\Rightarrow q=\epsilon _{0}\phi =8.85\times 10^{-12}\times 100(0.1)^{3}

          =8.85\times 10^{-13}C

           =0.885\; pC
