Difference between by election and mid term elections ?

Mid –term elections: If the central or a state government loses its majority before the completion of its term and the formation of alternate government is not possible, then midterm elections are held.

By-election: If an elected member resigns or dies before completing his/her term, his/her office becomes vacant. Election held to fill that vacant seat is known as by-election.

Mid-term Election:If the centre or the state government losses its majority or gets dissolved before completing it's full term(5 years) and the formation of alternate government is not possible then the mid term election are held. However the new house will have a full cover year term.

By-Election: If an elected member resign or dies before completing his or her term his or her office become vacant and thus election held to fill that vacant seat is known ase by-election, however the person so elected remains the member for the unexpired term of the House.
