The term nation means a group of people who are geographically located in the same place and connected by some principles, values, duties, obligations, shared history, culture and responsibility towards each other and their mother land. This shared history means the struggles, problems, socio political set up in which they are brought up is same. These made them follow similar ideals, notions and believe in certain values such as of freedom, respect towards each other, tolerance, democracy, feeling of brotherhood, oneness and unity. In a democratic country like India, we have some fundamental duties regarding our nation. The fourth day is to defend the country and render national services when called upon to do so.

Along with this, other duties are to promote, harmony and spirit of common brotherhood amongst all people of India ignoring any differences based on religious,  linguistic, regional or sectional diversities, to renounce practises derogatory to women. The sixth duty is to value and preserve the rich heritage of our composite culture. To protect and improve the natural environment such as lakes, forests, rivers, wild life and have concern for all animals, to develop scientific attitude and  feeling of humanism. To safeguard public property and abjure violence and to always excel in every field of individual and group activity so that people can reach higher levels of achievement.
