Their are two types of ants- worker ant and queen ant. Worker ant can be male or female. Queen ant is a female whose job is to find a male ant to produce ants. After mating she sheds her wings and move to a different colony to lay eggs.
Among the two types of ants those who eat more proteins becomes the queen ant. This queen ant is mother of all other ants. She lay eggs and other works for the colony. So, the diffetence between mother ant and worker at is of diet.
