There are lots of instances in our daily life where we can find friction is a necessity and useful. For example, we can hold objects in our hands with the help of friction; without friction, we cannot walk on the road, and without friction, we cannot light a match stick, etc. But there are also lots of instances in our daily life where we can find friction is not desirable/useful, for example, We observe wear and tear on machinery parts, because of the friction between machinery parts.
As you can see friction is advantageous to us then it considered as a friend but due to its various disadvantages, it is considered as a foe. Depending on the situation, friction can be helpful or harmful. That's why friction is a necessary evil.
