best_answer

Pollination is the process through which plants reproduce by taking pollen from the male flower part (anther) and depositing it on the female part (stigma).

There are two types of pollination:

  1. Self-pollination - where pollen is transferred within the same plant or flower
  2. Cross-pollination - where pollen is transported to another plant through wind, water, or pollinators such as bees and butterflies.

Drawbacks of Self-pollination

Since there is limited genetic variation, the plants will be less capable of coping with environmental pressures and disease, mostly unable to survive under severe conditions.
Ongoing self-pollination will also produce weaker offspring, resulting in diminishing fertility over time.
