Answer: \lambda<\frac{1}{3}

Hint: \tan ^{-1} x+\tan ^{-1} y=\tan ^{-1} \frac{x+y}{1-x y}

Given:\tan ^{-1} 3+\tan ^{-1} \lambda=\tan ^{-1} \frac{3+\lambda}{1-3 \lambda}

Solution:

\tan ^{-1} x+\tan ^{-1} y=\tan ^{-1} \frac{x+y}{1-x y}                                                                                                 [x y<1]

                                   =\pi+\tan ^{-1} \frac{x+y}{1-x y}                                                                                         [x y>1]

\begin{aligned} &\mathrm{x}=3, \mathrm{y}=\lambda \\ &\mathrm{xy}<1 \\ &3 \lambda<1 \\ &\lambda<{3} \end{aligned}
