Pariksha guru: Published by Srinivas das in 1882. The theme of tradition and modernization in the virtue of an evolving middle class family is the main theme of the story. Pariksha guru is considered landmark in the history of Hindi novel. It cautioned young men of well to do families about the ill effects of bad company.  It then shows how to live a practical life that preserves traditional values in honour and dignity.  Children are advised to read the newspaper.
